Mikaela Matthews, Frisco’s slick-skiing member of the U.S. moguls team, is in Park City, Utah, this week with the rest of her national squad teammates for the season’s first off-snow camp.

The team has been utilizing water ramps in the area to work on their jumping for next season.

“Most of the athletes we have at this camp are more of our up-and-comers,” said U.S. mogul coach Scott Rawles, a Breckenridge resident, in a statement released by the team. “We’re working on the basic skills here as we progress to our next on-snow skiing camp in Australia.”

The camp consists of two-a-day workouts – morning water-ramp work at the Utah Olympic Park and cross training in the winter – and is geared to prepare the athletes for their season, which starts in December.

Matthews – a 2009 Summit High grad – is heading into her second season with the team. The 19-year-old is known for her speed and precise turns. Last season, she had a solid season on the NorAm Tour.
