Grotemeyer’s five goals pave way to sweep of Aspen

DAILY NEWS STAFF REPORT

The Summit Hockey Squirt B’s traveled to Aspen this weekend and came home with two more wins to bring their record to 8-6-1 for the season. Summit came out strong in the first period scoring four goals: Jack Nevicosi (assisted by Riley Hillis), Hillis and two goals from Peter Grotemeyer. Aspen answered with two goals of its own, but then fell flat for the rest of the game. Hillis scored again in the second period, then Grotemeyer (assisted by Dillon Ventola), Sam Weston and Sean Farley scored in the third period. Kyle Guth was in goal for the first half of the game with Hunter Marsh finishing the 8-2 win. The defense of Reiker Edstrom, Levi Ascher, Blake Horan and Sean Farley held strong in the second game. Both goalies, Marsh and Guth, protected a perfect net for the first league shutout of the season. Grotemeyer tallied a hat trick, with two unassisted and one assisted by Weston. Hillis and Horan also scored to bring the final score to 5-0. Ben Schoeffield completes the Squirt B offensive lineup. The Squirt B’s will host Steamboat this weekend. The results of these games will determine if the team will be eligible for the CDYHL state playoffs in early March.
