A pair of Summit County girls have officially taken over the Rocky/Central J3 Junior Olympic Championships at Aspen’s Buttermilk Mountain.

After stellar finishes in each of the first two races on Tuesday and Wednesday, Team Breckenridge alpine skiers Katy Harris and Kaitlynn Sockett finished first and third, respectively, in Friday’s giant slalom competition.

Harris, who also placed first in the GS qualifying competition just two weeks ago, won the race by a mere 0.22 seconds with a swift, two-run time of 2 minutes, 8.21 seconds.

Sockett finished in 2:09.90. She moved up from seventh place after a blistering second run.

Also having a strong day was Anne Parker of Team Summit. She finished with a time of 2:14.48 to come in 15th place.

Danielle Moulton (34th) and Eleanor Brown-Wolf (38th) also finished their two runs.

Sockett was the silver-medal winner in Tuesday’s opening downhill race.

The competition continues today with boys’ and girls’ slalom races at Aspen Highlands.
