Harvey’s 6 goals keys 8-0 victory

DEVON O'NEILsummit daily news

ARVADA – It’s not every day (or every year) you see a double hat trick in a high school soccer game. In fact, you might question whether the phrase “double hat trick” is actually a phrase.Regardless, Summit’s Hannah Harvey completed one Tuesday against Jefferson, scoring six times as the Tigers beat the lowly Saints 8-0 at the North Area Athletic Complex. The junior scored twice to open the first half, then added four straight tallies to open the second half. It gave her a new career high for goals in a game, surpassing the five she scored in Summit’s season opener. Harvey now has 17 goals on the season, all but five of her team’s total.Senior Tory Sigmond scored the Tigers’ third and final first-half goal, and her classmate Emma Koenig buried Summit’s final goal late in the second half. Emily Hawkins preserved the shutout by stopping the Saints’ only shot on net.”The girls kept their heads on straight and played really clean soccer out there,” SHS coach Stephanie Johnson said of the rout. “It’s fun to see them come together like that.”That’s kind of our goal is just to play our soccer no matter who the opponent is.”Koenig and Sigmond each assisted on two of Harvey’s goals; Lara Silven assisted on Sigmond’s score; defender Emily George notched the assist on Harvey’s fifth score; and Harvey fed Koenig on the team’s final goal.Johnson said three seniors – Koenig, George and Sigmond – provided stellar leadership the entire game.Summit (3-5) plays again Thursday and could host a game Saturday depending on field conditions, Johnson said.Devon O’Neil can be contacted at doneil@summitdaily.com.
