BRECKENRIDGE – Summit County is an active community, and for those – locals and visitors – wanting a bit more from your Fourth of July than hot dogs and hamburgers, the Town of Breckenridge gives you the Independence Day 10k Trail Run.

The event, starting at 7 a.m. Sunday, takes participants from the race start at Breck’s Carter Park through some local trails, trudging on a 10-kilometer loop back to the park.

“It’s a tough course, but it’s a scenic course on the town of Breckenridge trails,” race director Linsey Kach said. “We have a lot of locals and visitors alike out running the race.”

The race is open to the first 300 who register. Those wishing to do so can stop by The North Face Breckenridge at 322 S. Main St. or go online to

The preregistration fee is $25 for adults 18 and older and $15 for those under 18.

All participants receive a free T-shirt.

Packet pick-up will take place at The North Face Breckenridge from 2-5 p.m. on Saturday.

Kach said the race is for runners (or walkers) of all abilities and participants will be finished with plenty of time to head down to Breck’s Fourth of July parade on Main St.
