Lady Tigers get revenge against Elizabeth
ELIZABETH – The Summit High School girls basketball team seems to be improving with each of its games.Just ask the 14-7 Elizabeth Cardinals, who fell to the Tigers 40-39 on Friday night, one month after beating them by 21 points in Summit. The victory, which came in comeback form and which may have clinched a postseason berth, was the fourth in a row for the Tigers (8-11, 5-2 in the 4A Jeffco League), who have also won five of their last six.Tigers coach Dylan Hollingsworth, who saw his squad battle back from a 26-16 halftime deficit, credited the Lady Tigers for attacking the Cardinal zone, protecting the basketball and playing tough defense.Mallory Ives led Summit’s offense with 14 points, Jeana Holman scored nine and Alyssa Tallmadge chipped in seven.”Alyssa had what I believe was her best game of the year,” Hollingsworth said. “She was hustling all over the place and diving for loose balls. The energy she brought provided a turning point for us.”Whitney Degerberg and Katie Sodergren both played tenacious defense out of Summit’s triangle-and-two set, according to Hollingsworth. The Lady Tigers late-season push for the playoffs continues Tuesday at Golden, the No. 2 team in class 4A.
