Leadville offers 10K and 5K races Sept. 13

LEADVILLE – Located in the heart of the Rocky Mountains, a 10K run and 5K walk in Leadville Sept. 13 offer a brisk and rarefied mountain atmosphere and unparalleled mountain views.

The 10K is the highest 10K race in the United States, reaching 10,608 feet at its highest point. The courses will offer shady forests, peaceful mountain meadows, old mining camps and unparalleled mountain views as they wind through the historic Leadville Mining District of the 1880s. The course routes follow asphalt and dirt roads, bike trails and abandoned narrow gage railroad grades.

Both events begin and end at Hard Rock Park in downtown Leadville.

T-shirts will be provided to all participants, although late registrants may have to wait for theirs if there are too many late registrations.

Please pre-register early so that we can get your size in time for the race. There will be refreshments for all and prizes for the top finishers. Awards will be made for the top male and female in the following divisions: 12-and-under, 13-19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50-59, and 60-and-over.

Walkers will start at 9:30 a.m. and runners will start at 10 a.m.. Registration is from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. at Hard Rock Park, 600 Harrison Avenue (the main street in downtown Leadville, which is also US Highway 24). Cost for either the Walk or the Run is $15 in advance or $20 on the day of the race.
