Miller leads Breck lacrosse

Special to the Daily The Breckenridge Middle School Lacrosse team poses last weekend after playing in a tournament in Avon.

SUMMIT COUNTY – For playing every minute of every game, Taylor Miller got a gift. The Breckenridge Middle School Lacrosse workhorse was given the game ball Sunday after head coach Jeff Echols’ squad went 1-1.

In the first game, Miller and company held a 5-4 lead until Avon-Eagle scored in the final moments to tie the score. Brock Barto, Tom Sawyer (2), Max O’Neill and Braxton Campbell scored for Breckenridge, which lost to Avon-Eagle 11-4 in a scrimmage earlier this season.

“I am just really astounded at how well they’ve come together and learned the game,” Echols said.

In the second, Breckenridge beat Evergreen, 6-2, behind strong defense by Colin Rada. Michael Daniels (2), Campbell (3) and Tom Sawyer scored. Campbell had eight goals in the team’s four games last weekend.

Saturday, the team plays host to Parker at Summit Middle School at 1 p.m. Parker, like Breckenridge, is a first-year program.

Breck’s final home game is June 5 at 11 a.m. at Kingdom Park against Avon-Eagle.
