Morrison stays alive at regional tournament
ARVADA – Casey Morrison is now the Summit High School wrestling team’s last hope. After finishing 1-1 on the first day of Ralston Valley’s 4A regional tournament, the Tiger freshman will return to the mat today against Tyler Phulson of Glenwood Springs in the 103-pound weight class.Morrison, who lost to Kelly Davis of Palisade before beating Evergreen’s Nate Phipps on points, was one of just two wrestlers to represent the Tigers in Arvada; his older brother Keller Morrison (0-2 on the day) was the other. Tucker Limbruner qualified for the regional tournament but was forced to scratch due to a nagging elbow injury.SHS coach Jim Melvin said he and the younger Morrison, who improved his personal record to 7-10, took the opportunity to scout Phulson on Friday evening.”I think he can wrestle with this kid,” Melvin said. “But Casey has to wrestle well and he can’t make any mistakes because (Phulson) is very strong.”
