The inaugural Frisco Mountain Goat Kids Trail Running Series began on July 7 and will continue throughout the month with races on July 14, 21 and 28. There will be different race distances and courses for each age group: Mini Goats (4 years and under) ½ mile – 1 mile courses; Junior Goats (5 years to 8 years) 1½ mile – 2 mile courses; and Senior Goats (9 years – 13 years) 5K course. If a child would like to run a longer or shorter distance then that listed for their age category, they may do so and are encouraged to choose the distance that they would like to run. This is a fun run, so there will be no timing or awards. Parents are welcome to accompany kids on the race course.

“I’ve been seeing a lot of kids at local races, so I decided that we should start a trail running series for just kids,” stated Linsey Kach, recreation programs manager. “And, while parents may run with their kids free of charge, we would encourage kids to run with just other kids if appropriate and possible. I think that builds a whole different level of confidence and accomplishment.”

Registration fee includes race entry, finisher gift and a slice of pizza. After the race, families are also encouraged to hang out and enjoy the free activities at the Frisco Adventure Park including horseshoes, corn hole, coloring, the Frisco Bike Park, the Frisco Skate Park and Peak One Disc Golf Course. Kids will need to bring their own bikes, skateboards and golf discs. The evening will end with a free movie shown inside the Frisco Day Lodge.

All races will start at 5:45 p.m. at the lodge located at 616 Recreation Way, Frisco. It is $15 for participants to register by 5 p.m. on the day prior to the race, and day of registration is $20 and will be available from 4:45–5:45 p.m. inside the Frisco Adventure Park Day Lodge. Kids may also register for the whole series for $45. Parents may race for free, but they will need to fill out a waiver before racing. To register, go to, or call (970) 668-2558.

The Frisco Mountain Goat Trail Running Series has a sister series in the Denver area. Their races take place at Lookout Mountain Nature Preserve, White Ranch Park and Alderfer/Three Sisters Park throughout the summer. Visit for more information on these.

The series also invites parents to volunteer as course marshals or course sweeps if they choose to not run with their child. Anyone who volunteers by at least the Monday prior to a Tuesday race will receive a free race entry for one child. To volunteer, contact Linsey Kach at (970) 668-9133 or For more information, go to
