Devon O'Neil

BUENA VISTA – Olympic high jump silver medalist Matt Hemingway – a Buena Vista High School 1991 graduate who now resides in Littleton – will be honored in a parade and pregame ceremony at the Summit High School vs. BV football game tonight. The game highlights Homecoming week for Buena Vista.According to SHS athletic director Gretchen Nies, Channel 4 News is expected to attend the festivities, and the station’s helicopter will be part of the frenzy surrounding the event.Nies said – slightly tongue in cheek, slightly serious – she wanted any SHS parents or rooters traveling down for the game to know that the helicopter was simply to cover the special Homecoming ceremony, not a sign of undoing or an attack by terrorists.BV athletic director Robert Crowther said that after Hemingway’s achievements have been honored in the pregame ceremony the Olympian will be available for autographs.”The ceremony shouldn’t take more than five or six minutes,” Crowther said. The game will be the first that Summit (2-2) has played this year against a 2A team. Buena Vista (4-0) is ranked fourth in the latest Rocky Mountain News 2A poll.
