DENVER – As promised, Jake Plummer is the quarterback of the future for the Denver Broncos.Plummer agreed to restructure his contract this week to help the team make more salary cap room for the upcoming free-agent signing period. Plummer was owed a $6 million roster bonus in March. By reworking the deal, he’ll receive most of that money this year and the remainder next year.”We’re committed to Jake and that commitment will be fulfilled,” Broncos general manager Ted Sundquist told The Denver Post. All season long, coach Mike Shanahan said Plummer would get his bonus and remain Denver’s quarterback.Plummer, who signed a seven-year, $40 million deal with the team in 2003, threw a team-record 27 touchdowns last season and an NFL-high 20 interceptions. Also agreeing to restructure deals were safety John Lynch, center Tom Nalen and receiver Rod Smith.
