Registration for 2004 Senior Winter Games ends Saturday

SUMMIT COUNTY – Ready, set, laugh.

The Summit County Seniors are sponsoring the annual Senior Winter Games for anyone from age 50 or older, and the registration deadline is Saturday.

Alpine events, plus several silly competitions, will be held Feb. 9 at Keystone, and Nordic (plus other silly) events on Feb. 10 at the Frisco Nordic Center.

“The slalom is probably my favorite,” organizer John Karras said.

“You get these 70- to 75-year-olds in the starting gate going, “Aaaah’, and then getting out and ski racing.”

Hockey puck shooting, snowball throwing and an obstacle course on skis are some of the many events.

A registration fee of $25 covers all the events anyone wants to enter. Registration deadline is Saturday.

Breckenridge volleyball leagues

The Town of Breckenridge Recreation Department Coed Recreational Leagues (6v6) will run on Monday nights and begin Feb. 2. Cost per team is $250. Coed Power Leagues (4v4) run on Wednesday Nights and begin Feb. 4.

Cost per team is $120. All play is self-officiated. There is a mandatory manager and free agent meeting on Jan. 26 at 6 p.m., at the Breckenridge Recreation Center.

Breckenridge basketball leagues

The Town of Breckenridge Recreation Department will start 4-on-4 half-court games.

Competitive play will be on Tuesday nights beginning Feb. 3.

Recreational play will be on Thursday nights beginning Feb. 5. Call your own fouls. Cost is $200 per team.
