BRECKENRIDGE – The third race in the 2003 Summit Trail Running Series will be held on Aug. 21 in the town of Breckenridge.

“I’m so excited for this one,” said Diane McBride, recreation director for the Rec Center. “It’s all on town of Breckenridge trails.”

Jerry Stafford helped pioneer the series two years ago.

“The course is a great usage of town trails,” Stafford said. “There’s a whole circuit of trails that are rarely being used.”

Both courses roll through Cucumber Gulch. The 10K course then turns towards the Breckenridge Outdoor Education Center and returns under the Snowflake Lift.

McBride said the course was measured and marked Tuesday morning.

The race begins at the Watson Trailhead in Breckenridge. Parking is available in the Miners Lot and the trailhead can be found just above the Thunder Mountain Lodge, which is across from First Bank.

Registration is available online at http://www.greatadventuresports.com.

Pre-registration is $15, and day-of registration is $20.

Stafford called this season’s series successful. “The numbers of racers participating in each race has gone up. The word is getting around.”

According to McBride, the number of runners jumped from 24 in the first race at Baker’s Tank to 48 in the second race at Pennsylvania Gulch.
