The Summit High boys’ swimming and diving team is partnering with Frisco’s Backcountry Brewery to help clean up the mess caused by the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

The Tiger team, including coaches, will be shaving their heads and donating their hair to the clean-up effort and encourage others in the community to do the same.

Hair, both from people and animal, is being used by fisherman and environmentalists to help clear the beaches of oil.

The Backcountry Brewery is offering a free pint to everyone (over 21) who participates.

SHS head coach Ryan Van Gundy is also trying to get teams at the Colorado state swim meet to donate for this cause.

“We’re hoping some other teams will match us,” he said. “I’ve already found a warehouse that will store and ship the hair for us.

“We just need to do our part to help.”

The event is tonight at the Backcountry Brewery from 6-8. Call (970) 668-2337 for more information.
