ARVADA – Despite a respectable pitching performance from senior righthander Justin Green, the Summit High School baseball team couldn’t make it two wins in a row Monday against Golden.The Demons outlasted the Tigers 9-5 in a game that entered the seventh and final inning tied at 5. Golden scored four times in the top frame and Summit failed to answer in the bottom, dropping the Tigers to 1-7 overall (0-2 in the 4A Jeffco League) six days after they earned their first win of the year at Battle Mountain.”It came down to them executing and us not,” SHS co-coach Jeff Jackson said.Green pitched 5 1/3 innings and gave up five hits and five runs (three earned) while striking out six. Jordan Sitkoski yielded four runs over 1 1/3 innings in relief.Green was Summit’s top hitter, going 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and a run, while his classmate Sean Linfield continued his hot stretch at the plate with a 2-for-4 day that included a double and a run.The Tigers scored four times in the first inning but proceeded to leave 12 men on base and commit four errors.”We’re not gonna win games with that kinda stuff,” Jackson said.Summit’s next game is set for today at Conifer.Devon O’Neil can be contacted at (970) 668-4633, or at
