NEW CASTLE ” In their final tune up before Tuesday’s regional tournament, the Summit High boys’ golf team made a statement.

Facing seven of the 11 teams they will compete against in the Western Slope Regional, the Tigers shot a three-person total of 241 to win the Coal Ridge Invitational on Wednesday at Lakota Canyon Golf Club.

It was the first win of the season for Summit.

J.P. Schoeffield led the Tigers by firing a 77, good for third-place overall. Dak Dice and Evan Streit both shot 82s, while Kyle Metzger and Aaron Reaner finished with 83 and 92, respectively.

“It was a good day, really impressive,” head coach Gary Sorensen said of his team’s play.

The Tigers now prepare for Tuesday’s regional at the Aspen Golf and Tennis Club. Summit will need a second victory in a row to advance to state.
