With three players finishing in the top-seven, the Summit High boys’ golf team cruised to a win at the Titan Invitational at Lakota Canyon Ranch Golf Club on Thursday.

Sophomore Dylan Mitchell led the team with a 2-over-par 74 to finish in second place, and senior Dak Dice tied for fourth with a 76. Junior Evan Streit was T-7 after a 78.

The Tigers combined for a three-man team total of 225, good for an 11-shot victory over Battle Mountain. Palisade was second at 246.

“This is the strongest team performance we have had this year,” SHS head coach Gary Sorensen said. “The whole team ‘showed up’ ready to play.”

Aaron Redner (81) and Brian Metzger (85) rounded out the Summit lineup.

The meet was Summit’s final tune-up before heading to the regional tournament at Cobble Creek Golf Course in Montrose on Tuesday.

After a season of battling some Front Range foes in the Jeffco League, the Tigers are looking to advance to the state tournament out of the Western Slope region.

“These young men have to know that if they stay focused and patient, they have a realistic chance to advance from the regional,” Sorensen said.
