SHS gymnasts score 149.5

Still struggling with a depleted roster, the Summit High gymnastics team had a solid day Saturday in a meet against 5A Pomona High School in Evergreen.

The Tigers earned a slew of state qualifying scores, while scoring a 149.5. Pomomna scored 152.6.

Freshman Tessa Gunnin earned a trip to the state meet in all around, an “impressive” feet for a first-year athelte, head coach Lauren Johnson said.

Gunnin also placed first on the floor routine with an 8.7.

Senior Jordan Smith was right behind her on floor at 8.05. Smith earned a state cut on the vault, while placing fifth.

Junior Aylin Tuna also earned a state qualifying score on the vault and finished fourth in AA.

Freshman Hannah Hart and Abby Akers both had strong meets for Summit, and senior Anne DeJulio competed on bars for her first competitive action since getting injured in the season’s third meet.

Summit hosts the Tiger Tumbler on Tuesday at 6 p.m. , one of the team’s two remaining meets.
