SHS stars headed to Europe

SUMMIT COUNTY Two standouts from the Summit High School volleyball team will spend their holiday break playing against some of the top 16-year-olds in the world.Anicia Santos and Ariel Strickler were both invited by Bring it Promotions (BIP) to participate in New Years Bash 3, a European volleyball tour that includes two different tournaments. Santos will represent the U.S. junior national team and Strickler will be playing for a select team based out of Jacksonville, Fla. Both athletes play volleyball for club teams in Colorado in addition to playing for SHS.The six teams traveling with BIP will arrive in Venice, Italy on Dec. 26, before heading to Izola, Slovenia for a three-day tournament. The top two teams (one U16, one U18) will then likely travel to another tourney based in Belgrade, Serbia, while the other teams will compete in the Czech Republic.The Tigers duo is scheduled to return to Summit County on Jan. 6.Young Summit harriers compete at AAU National ChampionshipsORLANDO, FLA. The Summit Middle School girls cross country team was well represented at the AAU Cross Country National Championships, which took place Dec. 2 in Orlando, Fla.Summits Julia Bishop finished seventh out of 119 runners in the 4K youth race with a time of 15 minutes, 52 seconds; Tess Olson took 54th (17:31) in the same race; and Alisha Scheifley claimed 67th (12:47) out of 175 runners in the 3K midget division.
