SHS swimmers fare well at Jeffco Invite

ARVADA – The Summit High swimming and diving team tested their skills against a huge field of competitors at the Jefferson County Invitational at Meyers Pool on Friday and Saturday. The Tigers placed 11th among 20 schools and were just 14 points out of the top ten.

Pete Richmond took home a first-place finish for Summit, beating his nearest competitor by nearly half a second in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 22.76 seconds. Eric Lowe also turned in some strong swims, cracking the top ten in the 500 free (seventh place; 5:31.10) and scoring a state qualifying time of 1:59.05 in the 200 free (11th place).

Richmond and Lowe also contributed to the Summit relay teams with John McGee and David Shaffer. The foursome turned in a time of 1:40.09 in the 200 freestyle relay and 3:42.05 in the 400 freestyle relay, good for 10th place in each event.

Senior diver Joe Baldwin took home a fifth place finish with a score of 274.05.

In junior varsity events, Josh Gammel took sixth in the 200 free (2:17.89) and Marc Miller finished seventh in the 100 backstroke (1:16.47).
