SHS tennis team on a roll

It wasn1t a fluke; now It1s a streak.

The Summit High School tennis team followed its first win in two years with its second Thursday in cold weather at Skyview. Two singles players and two doubles teams combined to give the Tigers the four wins they needed to improve their season record to a surprising 2-1.

Spanish exchange student Isa Pastor, Summit1s No. 2 singles player, improved her personal record to 3-0 with a 6-3, 6-4 win over her Wolverine opponent. Tara Dickey got her first win at No. 3 singles, 7-6, 6-2.

On the doubles side, the No. 2 team of Bethany Buchanan and Lauren Cole won for the second straight time, 6-2, 6-3. The No. 4 team of Paula Uda and Brittany Ellsworth also got their second straight, toughing out a 6-3, 3-6, 10-6 (tiebreaker) win.

No. 1 singles player Julie Wallace came as close to victory as she has this season with a 6-7, 6-7 loss. Sara George and Betsy Casey, still searching for their first No. 1 doubles win, fell 3-6, 2-6. The No. 3 team of Diana Smithwick and Claire Taylor lost in three sets, 6-3, 1-6, 4-6.
