LAKEWOOD At last, the Summit High School track and field team is off to the races. The Tigers, who saw their season opener get called off due to snowy weather on Saturday, began their season Tuesday instead by competing in a quad meet at Jeffco Stadium. Conifer, Jefferson and D’Evelyn were Summit’s opponents.Although the Summit girls finished third overall and their male counterparts took fourth, it was still a meet with several positives, according to Tigers assistant coach Kevin Mastin.”About half our kids scored points, which is very exciting,” Mastin said. “And there were no injuries. That’s always a plus in these early season meets.”The Tigers were led by Catherine Clark and Madeleine Child, two juniors who accounted for Summit’s only victories on the day.Clark won the 100 meter high hurdles, while Child took the 300 low hurdles. The Lady Tigers also had several individuals with second-place finishes: Katie Sodergren was second in the 800 run and the triple jump; Catherine Clark was runner-up in the 200 dash; and Sharayah Dossett was second in the discus.Summit boys highlights included a fourth-place finish in the 400 dash by Hayden Hedman, a fourth by Talon Roggasch in the 300 hurdles and a fourth by Chris Rice in the 3200 run.
