Snowboard Outreach series hits Keystone Saturday


KEYSTONE – The Snowboard Outreach Society (SOS) snowboard series visits Summit County for the first time this season, with slalom and giant slalom races scheduled for Keystone on Saturday.The second event in the Rocky Mountain’s largest snowboarding series will feature a morning GS followed by afternoon slalom races. The 17-event series will take place in Vail, Beaver Creek, Keystone, Breckenridge and Steamboat Springs.Boarders can compete in slalom, giant slalom, halfpipe, slopestyle and snowboard-cross events throughout the season. And despite the series’ name, skiers can also compete in halfpipe and slopestyle events. Competition winners will be on their way to qualifying for the USA Snowboarding Association (USASA) Nationals at Copper Mountain, April 2-9. The SOS events are held to raise money for the organization’s programs serving youth with risk factors in their lives. SOS’ 11th anniversary season starts with having taught more than 10,000 under-served youth values such as courage, discipline, integrity, wisdom and compassion through the sport of snowboarding. SOS’ programs run at 26 ski resorts nationwide.This Saturday’s events will start with a GS at 10 a.m. Competitors can register online at or in person the morning of the event from 8-9:30. There is a $25 competition fee, and a one-time annual USASA membership fee of $60.
