SOS series to start Sunday in Steamboat

AVON – The Snowboard Outreach Society’s (SOS) competition series will begin its season Sunday with slalom and giant slalom races in Steamboat Springs at Howelson Hill.

The opening event in the Rocky Mountain’s largest snowboarding series will feature a morning giant slalom at 10 a.m., followed by afternoon slalom races.

Competitors can register online at or register the morning of the event from 8-9:30 a.m.. There is a $25 competition fee, and a one-time annual USASA membership fee of $50. One-day lift tickets will be available for those competitors without season passes for $10 at Howelson Hill.

The 15-event United States of America Snowboarding Association (USASA) series will take place in Vail, Beaver Creek, Keystone, Breckenridge and Steamboat Springs.

Over the course of the season, boarders will compete in slalom, giant slalom, halfpipe, slopestyle and snowboard cross events. Skiers can also compete in halfpipe and slopestyle events. Competition winners will be on their way to qualifying for the USASA Nationals at Angel Fire, N.M., March 21-27.
