Sports People: Cam Fulton

Daily Staff Writer
Summit Daily/Dan Kelley Cam Fulton, who works on trail maintenance for Maverick Sports Promotions, poses next to one of his projects.

Cam Fulton has been with Maverick Sports Promotion for three years. He is a full-time trail maintenance tech, and was introduced to trail building by his wife, who is the trails planner for the town of Breckenridge. Fulton and the Maverick Sports team are working on the Iowa Hill trail in Breckenridge. The site of an abandoned gold mine, this trail will feature interpretive signage and restored artifacts.

Why do you do what you do?

“It’s a fairly creative job; it’s a fun job.”

What’s your favorite part about trail building?

“Getting people out there. In an age where we’re going through this obesity problem, it’s a great way to a) get people out and b) get people to appreciate nature.”

Which group of trail users does the most damage: Hikers, bikers, or equestrians?

“If the trail is designed properly, you can accommodate all users. You have to design a trial that will accommodate those users so people won’t really damage the trail. With education and proper design, everybody can be out there enjoying it.”
