Squirt B’s top Aspen at home

BRECKENRIDGE – The Summit Squirt B’s defeated Aspen 6-2 at the Stephen C. West Ice Arena on Saturday. Riley Hillis scored Summit’s first goal with an assist from Jack Nevicosi. In the second period, Peter Grotemeyer scored unassisted on a breakaway, Levi Ascher scored with an assist from Hillis and Sam Weston scored with assists from Sean Farley and Grotemeyer. Nevicosi assisted Farley for Summit’s fourth goal of the period. The defense of Farley, Blake Horan, Reiker Edstrom and Ben Schoeffield held the Aspen team to only seven shots on goal. Summit’s goalies, Kyle Guth and Hunter Marsh, split the game – each giving up only one goal. Grotemeyer scored in the third period with an assist from Dillon Ventola to cap the scoring for Summit. The Squirt B’s now have a league record of 3-1-3.Summit Youth Hockey Peewee A’s flying high The Summit Youth Hockey Peewee A’s are now in first place in the Continental Divide Youth Hockey League. Summit’s Peewee A’s split two games Dec. 3 with the Mountain States Renegades. Summit lost the first game, 2-1, but came back to win the second game, 3-2. Highlights in the first game included a goal by Drake Blass and strong defensive play by Dylan Junkermeier, Kyle Metzger, George Gruber, Mac Pitts and goaltender Noelle Herrick. In the second game, Blass tallied a hat trick. Phillip Contos was strong in goal, while Dylan Horan, Evan Streit, Billy Grosshuesch and Ian McCluskie kept the Renegades busy with continuous offensive pressure.
