Summit alpine skiers sweep slalom races

Make it four for four.

For the second straight week, the Summit High alpine ski team swept both the boys’ and girls’ team titles. Last week, the Tigers took two wins at the season-opening giant slalom at Copper Mountain. Friday, it was another two, this time in slalom at Beaver Creek.

Each squad had four skiers in the top-11, and Nicole Anderson won the race on the girls’ side.

“It was a great day individually for a few guys,” SHS head coach Karl Barth said. ” … Overall, not a bad day at all.”

The girls placed three skiers in the top-four of the race, in taking the team win 176-168 over Steamboat Springs. Aspen was third in the seven-team competition at 156 points.

Anderson topped teammate Ellie Hartman by nearly five seconds after posting a two-run time of 1 minute and 22.41 seconds.

Miranda Sheely, who was second last week at Copper, finished in fourth.

Shelbee Wood was 11th.

The boys’ team split the title with Steamboat, as both squads finished with 169 points. Aspen, which had individual winner Kevin Hartman, was third at 160.

The Tigers’ Will Cutler, Dael Mouton and Ian Parker finished third, fifth and sixth, respectively, to propel the team to the win.

Matty Baldwin finished ninth.

Summit will try to keep the perfect streak going when the team travels to Eldora for another set of GS races on Jan. 21.
