Summit Bantam B’s improve to 4-0

The Summit Lightning Bantam B hockey team beat Durango twice over the weekend to improve its record to 4-0. The team comprised of 13- and 14-year-olds plays in the Rocky Mountain Youth Hockey League.Summit goalie Corey Hancock was helped out by defensemen Brian Kuhn, Pete Secor, Brian Ruddle and Kyle Johnson to shut out the Durango offense 4-0. The Lightning scored all four of its goals in the second period. Kuhn assisted on the initial goal of the game scored by Patrick Lewarton; his favor was returned later when teammate Brad Zimmerman assisted him for the final goal of the game. Zimmerman added an unassisted goal of his own, as did Secor. The Lightning’s hot offense continued in the second game, producing eight goals. The scoring was highlighted by Lewarton, who lit the lamp three times for a hat trick. His goals were assisted by Dan Foley, Rebekah Janes, James Lowrey and Kuhn. Andrew Richardson had a career game, posting two assists and scoring his first goal as a Bantam. Both of his assists came on goals scored by Lowrey. Secor scored another unassisted goal for the Lighting, and Summit capped its offense when Ruddle put one in the net during the closing moments of regulation.Alex Banas, Nick Hyrcaj, Kole Morrell, Jamie Teal and Jack Balerud all made significant contributions to the pair of Lighting victories as well.
