After an explosive first half, in which the Tigers scored three unanswered goals, the Summit High boys’ soccer team staved off a late rally by Centaurus for a 3-2 road win, Tuesday.

“We were doing a great job offensively,” Tigers head coach Justin Turri said. “It was great to get those early ones.”

Senior forward Justin Hollenbeck scored two of the Tigers’ goals, while fellow senior Erik Brooks chipped in the other.

“It was an amazing game, and we were able to hang on,” Turri said.

Hollenbeck got the Tigers on the board only 10 minutes into the first half, after

Summit already missed a few good scoring opportunities. Hollenbeck added his second goal minutes later, and Brooks capped off the Tigers’ scoring.

In the second half, Summit continued their aggressive play, but failed to finish on their opportunities.

Centaurus broke the shutout with 15 minutes remaining off a free kick. Then the lead was down to just one goal, when Centaurus scored from close range.

Though the last eight minutes of the game was back-and-forth, Turri said, Summit hung on for the win.

Ferris was credited with 15 saves on the night.

The Tigers are next in action when they travel to take on Conifer High School on Thursday.
