Summit County locals win 15 Alpine skiing medals at Copper Mountain Resort Special Olympics

Nine locals represented Summit County at last weekend’s Colorado Special Olympics State Winter Games at Copper Mountain Resort.

Competing against nearly 200 fellow Special Olympics athletes from across the state, Coach Kent Willis’ team competed in super-G and giant slalom Alpine skiing events.

The team consisted of Ernesto Blanco, Charlie Fazendin, Erikka Abbott, Steven Kennedy, Vital LaRocque, Caroline Willis, Kelly Faber, Abby Fazendin and Caleb Joyner.

Summit took home a slew of medals from the event. Ernesto Blanco won a gold and a bronze. Charlie Fazendin won two silvers. Erikka Abbott won two silvers. Steven Kennedy won two silvers.

Vital LaRocque won a silver medal and finished in fourth place. Caroline Willis won two silvers. Kelly Faber won two gold medals. And Abby Fazendin won a gold and a bronze.
