Summit Daily NFL Picks: Week 5
Welcome to our little science experiment. Throughout this season we are printing weekly NFL picks, against the spread, from sports editor Devon O’Neil, weekend editor Duffy Hayes and managing editor Ryan Slabaugh. All three think they know something about football. Our experiment’s fourth contestant is the copy editor team of Elusia Andrus and Leslie Brefeld, a pair of girls who do not claim to know a thing about the NFL (Andrus this week asked: What does the spread mean again? They have to win by that much, right?). After an interesting fourth week, the girls fell back into second as Hayes retook the lead; O’Neil treaded water while Slabaugh gained ground in fourth. Also of note: the Associated Press’ “expert” has a 27-33 record against the spread this season.Last week:Hayes: 8-6 (32-28 overall)Girls: 6-8 (31-29 overall)O’Neil: 7-7 (28-32 overall)Slabaugh: 9-5 (27-33 overall)This week:New England at Atlanta (-2.5)Patriots: Slabaugh, Andrus/Brefeld, O’NeilFalcons: HayesPittsburgh at San Diego (-3)Chargers: Slabaugh, Andrus/Brefeld, O’Neil, HayesCincinnati at Jacksonville (-3)Bengals: O’Neil, HayesJaguars: Slabaugh, Andrus/BrefeldWashington at Denver (-7)Redskins: Slabaugh, HayesBroncos: O’Neil, Andrus/BrefeldTampa Bay (-3.5) at New York JetsBucs: Andrus/Brefeld, HayesJets: Slabaugh, O’NeilPhiladelphia (-3.5) at DallasEagles: O’Neil, Slabaugh, Andrus/Brefeld, HayesIndianapolis (-14) at San FranciscoColts: Andrus/Brefeld, Hayes49ers: O’Neil, SlabaughCarolina (-3) at ArizonaPanthers: O’Neil, Slabaugh, HayesCardinals: Andrus/BrefeldSeattle at St. Louis (-3)Seahawks: O’Neil, Andrus/BrefeldRams: Slabaugh, HayesMiami at Buffalo (-2)Dolphins: O’Neil, HayesBills: Andrus/Brefeld, SlabaughBaltimore at Detroit (-1)Ravens: Slabaugh, Andrus/BrefeldLions: O’Neil, HayesNew Orleans at Green Bay (-3)Saints: Andrus/Brefeld, HayesPackers: O’Neil, SlabaughChicago at Cleveland (-3)Bears: O’Neil, HayesBrowns: Slabaugh, Andrus/BrefeldTennessee at Houston (-3)Titans: Slabaugh, O’NeilTexans: Andrus/Brefeld, Hayes
