Kelly Joyce scored four goals, and the Summit defense did the rest, clamping down a tough Aspen squad and lifting the Tigers to a 9-7 league win Tuesday on the road.

“We had a real good game,” SHS head coach Kristen Elliott said. “We came out really aggressive, and the defense did a good job. They kept us in it.”

It was the Tiger girls’ lacrosse team’s first game back after a week off for spring game, and Summit didn’t show much rust.

Elliott said the Tigers were solid on ground balls and worked their passing well up and down the field.

“It was just an all-around great game as a team,” she said. “Good job passing and hustling back on defense.”

Senior Hayley Colvin and sophomore Ivey Marshall each had two goals, and senior Katy Aceto scored once.

Elliott said the Tiger offense was proficient throughout the game, using some quick shots to beat the Aspen goaltender.

“After having a week off, they really came out ready and played hard,” the coach said of her team.

Freshman goalie Chelsea Christianson made five saves in the win, a few of which were on point-blank scoring chances.

The Tigers play again today at home against Conifer. The game, which was originally scheduled for Saturday, will start at 4 p.m. at Climax Molybdenum Field at Tiger Stadium.
