Summit baseball closes regular season 3-0 at home for school-best 15-4 overall record

It’s hard to believe the Summit High varsity baseball team hasn’t played at home all season — or in five seasons for that matter.

In the past week, the Tigers played three games at the Frisco Peninsula ball field and went undefeated: 12-0 and 15-2 against Steamboat Springs on May 5, and 12-1 over Battle Mountain on May 8.

The wins give Summit a 15-4 overall record and 10-2 record in the 4A Western Slope to end the season. Both are the best in Summit’s 4A baseball history, according to head coach Tom Looby, and his boys now have the chance to keep this history-making train chugging. CHSAA releases the 4A postseason brackets today in time for the first round of games on May 13. Check back with the Summit Daily for more info on the first round. Unfortunately, chances are slim that any of the games will be played in Summit County.

Looby has a recap from the third win of the weekend against Battle Mountain:

Senior pitcher Andrew Shaw won his eighth game of the season, a new Summit High record. He pitched a complete game, allowing just four hits and one run while striking out seven and walking none. He leads the league in strikeouts (110), no hitters (2) and ERA (0.82).

At the plate the Tigers banged out 14 hits, including five doubles. Ethan Drewes and Max Hess had three hits apiece, while Turner McDonald and Will Drewes had two hits each. Will Drewes knocked in three runs, while Koa Rashidi and Andrew Reynolds had two RBIs apiece.

Summit boys lacrosse lose in 1st round of 4A state playoffs, 2-21 to Dawson School

It’s been a long, hard-fought season for the Summit High boys lacrosse team, and luckily it came with a bonus game. Too bad there was only one.

The Tigers lost in the first round of the 4A state post-season on Tuesday, 2-21 to the Dawson School of Lafayette on the Front Range. Summit entered the game ranked No. 16 in the CHSAA rating-percentage index and Dawson School entered at No. 1. The top-16 4A teams from across the state made the post-season.

Dawson School, which entered the post-season as favorites to win the 4A title, faces Air Academy in the second round on May 12.
