FARMER’S KORNER – After winning their first Class 4A Jeffco League tournament last week, Summit High School golf coaches Chris Saunders and Mark Kleinschmidt decided to see how deep their squad could go.

Monday, the Tigers hit the links with a mix of new talent and found a sophomore with varsity skills.

Brett Miller led Summit Monday at the Skyline Invitational in Longmont with a 78, good enough for 18th place in a field of 132. The Tigers finished eighth of 33 4A and 5A teams.

“(Miller’s) really coming into his own,” Kleinschmidt said. “He’s going to be playing in the varsity match (today).”

The Tigers reenter league play today in Denver at The Meadows Golf Course.

Monday, Miller teamed with Phil Camillo (80), Sean Star (84) and Corey Stanton (90), who earned the highlight of the day. On the second hole, Stanton’s drive found the fairway.

Then, he pulled an 8-iron out of his bag, hit it sweet and watched it roll into the hole.

“That was his first eagle of his life and, in tournament conditions, that’s nice,” Kleinschmidt said.

Summit enters today’s tournament in second place in the league.
