Summit High girls’ hoops dominates against Englewood

As the Jeffco League Tournament got under way last Friday, SHS coach Rachel Dunaway was a little confused by the addition of Englewood to the pool, as the Pirates aren’t a member of the conference.

Well, Dunaway and her Tigers definitely aren’t complaining.

The Summit High girls’ basketball team blew out Englewood at the SHS gym on Monday 65-25.

“Everybody played well,” Dunaway said, “and we were able to get everybody into the game.”

It was the Tigers’ seventh win on the season, a substantial improvement from going winless during the 2009-10 campaign.

Seniors Ali Rookey and Chloe Webber led Summit in scoring on Monday, putting up 12 and 10 points, respectively.

“Our defense was pretty solid, and we shot the ball really well,” Dunaway said.

The Tigers host games both today and Thursday against Jeffco opponents.

The end-of-the-season tourney is a new addition to the schedule and has no bearing on whether or not a team makes the playoffs. .

Summit plays Arvada today at 4:30 p.m. and Alameda at the same time on Thursday to wrap up the season.
