Summit High left behind in bout with Sailors

On Friday, the Summit Tigers boys’ basketball team took on Steamboat Springs, but lost 56-47.

The game was close all night, with Summit ahead at the end of the first quarter, 16-13. Thomas DeBonville sunk two three-pointers and one two to tally eight points on the night. Steamboat took control during the second quarter and led at half time 25-20. With balanced scoring from guards Brandon Miller and Carter Counovcky and a five-point quarter from the Sailors’ big man, Garrett Bye, Steamboat continued to control the game and led at the end of the third quarter, 40-32. Ben Custer scored eight points for Steamboat during the quarter while Markeith McDonald scored six points in the quarter for Summit.

Summit rallied at the end of the game, cutting Steamboat’s lead to four points with about a minute and a half remaining in the fourth quarter.



DeBonville and Noah Glasco each hit a three-pointer while Markeith McDonald had two two-point shots.

But then Brody King hit a big three-pointer and pushed Steamboat’s lead to seven with 30 seconds left, a score difference Summit couldn’t recover.



DeBonville finished with 16 points and had three threes. McDonald put up 13 points and eight rebounds. Glasco had 11 points on the night. The Tigers’ next game is Jan. 8 at Eagle Valley.
