Summit High School girls soccer inspired despite Saturday loss

ENGLEWOOD – The girls soccer team was handed a 3-1 loss at the hands of Englewood on Saturday.

Despite the loss, they came away upbeat according to head coach Dirk Parmley.

“We actually played a better game than they did,” Parmley said, pointing out that the Tigers outshot the Pirates 13-10.

Kelly Kastberg scored the Tigers’ lone goal, and nearly tied it at two with 18 minutes to go when her shot on the goal bounced off the crossbar and was cleared by Englewood defenders.

Parmley was also inspired the play of freshman Emily George.

“She did an excellent job in the back, not only on the defensive end but in creating a lot of offensive opportunities also,” Parmley said.

The Tigers head back to Denver on Thursday to face Colorado Academy in a non-league game at 4 p.m.

In other preps news, the boys baseball team suffered a 12-2 loss to Colorado Academy on Friday, and was swept by Thomas Jefferson Saturday in a doubleheader. The Tigers lost 13-2, 10-5, despite only allowing five earned runs all day. Drew Arnesen led the Tigers with three hits, a RBI and two stolen bases on the day, while Kylor Dossett and Cory Olson also contributed two hits apiece.

“We started hitting the ball really well,” head coach John Padjen said. “Definitely, it was against quality pitching.”

The baseball season continues Friday in Buena Vista at 3 p.m.

The swim team fell to Englewood, 123-49 on Saturday.
