Summit High School hosts spring sports home openers this week

Spring sports got underway for Summit High School late last week with a series of away games. Most of the teams will return to Summit County this week for their home openers.

Girls soccer: The Summit girls soccer team got their season underway with a busy road schedule last week. The team opened the season with a 6-1 loss at Eagle Valley Thursday, March 5 followed by a 2-0 loss at Palisade Saturday. The lady Tigers traveled to Steamboat Springs Tuesday and fell in overtime to the Sailors in a hard-fought 3-2 game. The team will face Battle Mountain on the road Thursday, before opening their home schedule with four consecutive home games starting Saturday, March 14, against Delta.

Girls lacrosse: The Tiger girls lacrosse team opened their season with a 13-3 loss at Green Mountain. They’ll host Conifer Thursday and travel to Fruita Monument Saturday.

Boys lacrosse: The Tiger boys opened their season with a 7-5 home win against Eagle Valley. They’ll travel to Conifer Thursday and host Grand Junction Friday, March 13.

Track and field: The track team will travel to Rifle Friday for a 12 p.m. meet.

Baseball: After early season postponements, the Tiger baseball team will get their season underway when they travel to Palisade for a double header Saturday, March 14.
