Summit High School starts fall season this weekend

FARMER’S KORNER – Don’t be surprised if things look a little different when the Summit High girls volleyball team hosts Faith Christian at the Summit High School on Friday night.

According to Gretchen Nies, Summit’s athletic director, the Class 4A Jeffco League has adopted a rally scoring system.

Starting Friday at 5:30 p.m. at home, the Tigers will try out the new system. Every ball that hits the floor will produce a point, regardless of which team is serving.

More changes will also be evident. Games will be played to 25 instead of 15 and matches will be held in a best-of-five format, with the fifth game being a 15-point contest that must be won by 2 points.

Tuesday, the volleyball team brings Denver Christian to Summit County at 5:30 p.m.

The rest of the Summit sports teams gets fired up this weekend for the fall season as well.

* Thursday, the cross country team will get a running start on the season at the Harrison Invite.

* Friday, the boys soccer team plays Cheyenne Mountain in Colorado Springs.

* Friday, the softball team will host Lutheran at the Blue River fields in Silverthorne at 4:30 p.m.

* Girls volleyball will host Faith Christian at Farmer’s Korner at 5:30 p.m.
