The Summit midget hockey team beat Northern Colorado (Fort Collins) and Hyland Hills by a combined score of 12-2 over the weekend to advance to the Denver North Hockey League semifinals Saturday.
Coming into the playoffs, Summit had a 16-1-1 record as the No.1 overall seed. And Summit played like it.
Saturday, Evan Streit scored just 45 seconds into the matchup with Northern Colorado to give Summit an early lead.
Bobbie Ruddle and Mitchell Stashick scored goals in the first and second periods, respectively, before Summit opened up the game with a five-goal third.
Zach Dobson, Ian McCluskie, Sean Farley, Ruddle and Streit all scored in the final period to give Summit the 8-1 win.
Summit goalie Hunter Marsh made five saves in the win.
Sunday, Summit carried its momentum to a 4-1 win over Hyland Hills.
Hyland took an early lead in the game, but Curtis Dankof tied the game at 1-1 late in the second period off a pass from Ruddle.
Summit, once again, went on to have a big third period.
Drake Blass netted a pair of goals and McCluskie added one of his own, and Summit wound up with the easy win.
Marsh and Wolf Virostek combined for eight saves between the pipes for Summit, while their offense put a whopping 37 shots on net.
Summit now plays Greeley in the league semifinal on Saturday. Greeley is the only team to have beaten Summit this season.
