Summit peewee Bs get win

Bryce Evans

The Summit Lightning peewee B squad had lost its lead. There was only 40 seconds remaining, and the Lightning needed to strike to get back on top.

They’d dominated much of the game but their rivals from Steamboat Springs kept edging its way back.

Well, Summit had it deep in the Steamboat zone and kept throwing rubber to the net as the clock continued to tick down: 12, 11, 10 …

Another shot on net, and another save, but the puck squirted free – right onto the stick of Summit’s Beck Moore, who buried it into the back of the net with 7 seconds remaining.

Summit 6, Steamboat 5. And the Lightning completed a perfect three-game sweep of their rivals to the north with the win on Feb. 5.

Summit outshot its opponent 35-19 in the game and received goals from four different players.

But the scoring went back-and-forth much of the day.

Casey Lewark got the Lightning on the board in the first period, and Wyatt Dickerson scored moments later to keep the game tied at 2-2 after one.

Both teams scored twice again in the second, Summit’s goals coming from Dickerson and Moore.

Sean Costello put Summit back on top 5-4 with a breakaway goal in the third.

Then the game heated up in the last minute or so.

Steamboat tied it up with 40 seconds remaining, before Moore iced the win with his dramatic goal.

Summit goalie Kyle Rogers made 14 saves, with his defenders doing a stellar job in front of him, clearing the puck out of their own zone and keeping the pressure off their goalie.

With the win, Summit improved to 12-5. Next up is a matchup with the Jr. Eagles today in Denver.
