Summit teen crowned nat’l champ

Summit High’s Drew Petersen won the 15-17 age division of the U.S. Extreme Freeskiing Junior Championships in Crested Butte on Wednesday. Petersen, who also skis for the Tiger alpine team, showed he was capable of skiing anything, charging a steep chute on skier’s right hand side earning a final score of 76.77.

“I’m always really stoked on these events. There’s such good vibes from the competitors,” Peterson said in a press release. “It’s been a goal of mine to win the Junior Freeskiing Tour for awhile, and it was great to win at Crested Butte, since it’s so close to home.”

The competition was the first stop of the 2011 Junior Freeskiing Tour.

Petersen will suit up for Summit in the Colorado state meet in Aspen on Feb. 24-25.
