Summit Trail Running Series kicks off tonight
Now in its 12th year, the Summit Trail Running Series gets underway this evening in Breckenridge. The first race in the six-event series will be on Baker’s Tank Trail with a 5:45 p.m. start time. Day-of registration opens at 4:45 p.m. in the Stephen C. West Ice Arena parking lot.
Organizers encourage racers to park at the ice arena and take the Breckenridge Free Ride bus to and from the trailhead. Tonight’s race offers 4K and 10K options.
The Summit Trail Running Series includes six trail races in and around the town of Breck.
“It’s a great thing for Summit County,” said Brian Schaefer, sports and special events coordinator for Breckenridge. “Ever year it gets bigger and bigger.”
Course lengths vary. Each race will feature a short and long option, between 4K and 20K, depending on the event.
Registration for the entire series closes today prior to the race. Runners may can register for each race individually throughout the series.
Races are open to all runners ages 10 and older, and participants 18 and under race for free. Races take place on Wednesday evenings throughout the summer.
Organizers want to remind runners that there are no aid stations on the courses and the series is cup-free.
Participants must bring a reusable water bottle.
