Summit volleyball gets big win on the road

The Summit High School volleyball team traveled to Evergreen Thursday and took out one of last year’s Jefferson County League powers.

The Tigers beat the Cougars 15-5, 15-10, to open their league schedule 1-0. They are 3-0 overall.

Coach Tim Andrulaitis said it was a team win but credited middle hitter Stephanie Von Norman with dictating the pace of the game.

“She owned the net,” Andrulaitis said of Von Norman, who had 10 solo blocks.

“We just came out and played awesome,” he continued. “The chemistry was there.”

On Saturday, the team travels to Machebeuf for a nonleague tournament before continuing league play next week. Summit now appears to be one of the teams to beat in its new league, although Ralston Valley is also undefeated.

“There are other good teams,” cautioned Andrulaitis. “I don’t want my girls to get overconfident. Tonight was a big win, but we still need to focus on playing volleyball.”
