Really, Bruce Perry Jr. couldn’t have asked for a better start to 2010 than he had last weekend in Squaw Valley, Calif., for the season-opening USSA mogul competition.

At the end of last season, the 14-year-old Summit County mogul prodigy was ranked second nationally for J3 men’s moguls behind only Squaw Valley local Treavor Semmens.

Last Saturday, it was Perry that wound up No. 1.

Throwing a back layout on his top air and skiing flawlessly through the mogul course, Perry scored a 19.34 to edge his rival by 0.17 points for the win.

The Perry-Semmens rivalry actually goes back much further than the two teenage skiers’ short careers, as both boys’ fathers competed against one another for more than 20 years ago on the USSA moguls circuit and the Professional Mogul Tour.

The younger Perry skies with Team Breckenridge Sports Club.
