Swift Skedaddle back in Silverthorne Saturday

While its name – Swift Skedaddle Snowshoe Adventure – may sound a little silly, the annual Silverthorne race is anything but. With more than 680 feet of elevation gain across a mostly singletrack course, the Swift Skedaddle is one of the best tests of snowshoe racing in the region.

Thus, the 10k race serves as the USSSA Regional Qualifier once again. In its 14th year, the Swift Skedaddle will have some of the best athletes in the sport from around the Rockies competing for a chance at a berth in the national championships.

The race begins Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at The Raven at Three Peaks Golf Club in Silverthorne. There is also a 5k race as well.

The course begins on the rolling hills of the golf course, before taking a steep climb up some tricky singletrack. From start to finish, racers experience a variety of terrain, rarely stepping foot on groomed trails.

While those competing in the regional qualifier will take to the long course, the 5k is set up for those that want half the challenge. The shorter course was added to the event in 2010.

Last year, Brian Smith of Gunnison was the overall winner in the 10k with a time of 52 minutes and 17 seconds. Tim Hola of Highlands Ranch was second.

On the 5k track, Kevin Krayna of Denver took top honors over Littleton’s Glenn Erickson.

Registration is under way. The entry fee for the 10k is $50, while the 5k is $30. Day-of registration is available at The Raven clubhouse from 9-10 a.m. Saturday.
