Swimmers win last dual

FARMER’S KORNER – The Summit High School swimming and diving team closed out the regular season on a high note with a win over Columbine in the Tigers’ last dual meet of the spring.

Summit took first place in every event except one, and nearly every Tiger landed on the podium. The team also posted one more state qualifying time: 1 minute, 56.18 seconds by the 200 medley relay team of Eric Lowe, John McGee, David Shaffer and Pete Richmond.

Richmond and Lowe each swept his events, with Lowe coming in first in the 100 backstroke and the 500 freestyle, Richmond winning the 50 free and 100 free, and both swimmers contributing to the first-place 400 freestyle relay team.

Shaffer edged teammate Marc Miller by .15 seconds to finish first in the 100 breaststroke, and Kyle Ahern (2:18.81) and Miller (2:18.84) took first and second in the 200 free. Summit diver Joe Baldwin won his event with a score of 209.15 points – nearly twice that of his closest opponent.

The Tigers begin the postseason with the Jeffco League meet at Meyers Pool May 9-10.
