Team Summit’s Campbell wins sportsmanship award

Daily News staff report

Riley Campbell, a 16-year-old Summit High School sophomore and Team Summit freestyle skier, received the prestigious Landon Sawyer Sportsmanship Award last weekend at the Landon Sawyer CU Bump Bash at Arapahoe Basin. The award is named after Sawyer, a promising freestyler who died at age 18 while skiing at Monarch in February 2002. “This honor is bestowed upon the athlete showing great sportsmanship to all athletes, a love of the sport of freestyle skiing and a sense of humor – all indicative of Landon’s personality,” said Chuck Martin, coach of the CU freestyle team. “Riley was that skier this year.”
