KEYSTONE – To all those that follow the NBA, Jerry West will always be known as the dribbling silhouette in the logo of the NBA.

In golf, it’s Jack Nicklaus’s swing that’s immortalized in the PGA Tour crest.

Then, there’s Drew Hauser – “The Logo” of telemark racing. Well, of the U.S. National Telemark Team, anyway.

If anyone watching the World Cup races out at Keystone this week feel that Hauser and his red helmet – clad with gray flames – look a bit familiar, it’s not just because he’s carved the resort’s slopes since he was a youngster. After all, you’ve seen a picture of the Silverthorne native on the jacket of every U.S. team member, on the I.D. badges worn by volunteers and scorers and even on a few of the signs surrounding the finish area.

He’s everywhere.

You see, a sketch of Hauser cruising, er, tele-ing (is that a word?) through a gate is embedded into the logo of the U.S. Telemark Skiing Association.

Although Hauser’s status in U.S. skiing isn’t exactly shabby – he won both a U.S. National and Junior World title just last winter – it wasn’t exactly the reason his likeness was chosen.

“It was from an early photo,” Hauser, 20, said of the sketch. “The logo was finished after my first year on the (national) team five years ago. It’s from a World Cup race, where some photographer caught a really good shot of me. That’s where it came from.”

Still, it must feel pretty good to be the symbol of your sport, right?

“It’s really cool, I guess,” Hauser said laughing.

Cool to be in the same company of West and Nicklaus?

“Heh, I guess so,” he said.
